Gaba One

GABA

GABA is an amino acid that is the main ‘inhibitory’ neurotransmitter in your central nervous system. It is naturally present in your body, thanks in part to the ingestion of certain foods. As a dietary supplement, it binds to the inhibitory receptors in your brain and compensates for any deficiency.

Signs of deficiency

GABA is an amino acid that plays an important role in many physiological processes. The brain uses it as a neurotransmitter with an inhibitory role, i.e. it is capable of reducing the transmission of nerve impulses and modulating the excitability and activity of your central nervous system. If it is not sufficiently present in the body, this can lead to anxiety, fatigue, disturbed sleep, etc.

Causes of a deficiency

A stressful lifestyle, poor diet and/or lack of sleep can cause the level of GABA produced by the brain to fall. But because GABA is produced by certain bacteria, an intestinal imbalance can also upset the body's ability to produce it. In addition, a vitamin B6 deficiency, gluten intolerance or an immune disorder can also disrupt its production.

GABA precursors are found in meat, fish, dairy products, vegetables and cereals. But in all these cases, food is not enough to provide the brain with enough GABA. The body therefore produces an endogenous synthesis to compensate for the lack of dietary intake, through several enzymatic stages. The first phase leads to the synthesis of glutamate from glutamic acid and the second converts glutamate into GABA. But when this synthesis is insufficient or disrupted, GABA becomes essential in the form of a dietary supplement.
